Summer 1998 – The opening stages of the Tour de France have moved to Ireland. The Belgian cyclist Dom Chabol, almost at the end of his career, is one of the best ‘Domestiques’ (master servants) of the last 20 years in the Tour. It’s a tough, sacrificial role – setting the pace, holding back wind and providing support so that the team’s sprinter gets over the line first – and going for the win yourself isn’t an option. But Dom secretly has a desire to wear the yellow jersey – just once before the end of his career.
